How Long Can I Keep My Hair Extensions in for?

Getting hair extensions is not always simple as clipping more hair on the head and going out for a date. Other hair extensions methods involve a long arduous process to obtain that beautiful head of hair.

Hair extensions can be glued, corn rowed or sewn into the natural hair. To get the hair extensions done, an appointment with a hairstylist is required. Most stylists will do a test for compatibility and also to check for allergic reactions if a chemical product is used.

A woman going in for a permanent hair extension procedure needs to get a patch test done. This short test performed by a competent stylist will match the hair to the hair extension product. This test also assures that the client is not allergic to the chemicals in the glue (if this is the method chosen to get the extensions)

Gluing the hair extensions is the quickest method to aid volume and thickness to the original hair. The glue adheres the hair extensions to the natural hair at the base of the natural hair area close to the scalp. The adhesive glue that is used starts to lose the adhesion qualities over time.

Hair extensions applied with polymer glues last a few months and have to be redone. Keeping the hair clean with special shampoos keep the locks looking neat but causes the glue lose its adhesive qualities. When the glue loses some of its adhesion, the process has to be repeated. This form of adding hair extensions can be very costly.

The weaving process where hair is actually sewed to a based can last from 6-8 months. There will be intervals when the
Hair weave will need to be tightened. But this process only happens as the hair starts to grow or the threads become loose. The retightening of the hair weave is a simple process. It usually takes about 2 hours at the most. The hair condition is an important consideration before using any of the permanent hair extension technique such as gluing the hairs or having hair sewn to the root hair. Hair stylist are looking for new ways to encourage healthy hair and preventing hair lost, hair breakage, dry hair and scalp as a result of getting hair extension products.

With the single braid hair extensions, the maintenance is less time consuming. It may take a monthly update with the hairstylist to keep these braids looking sharp. It is hard to estimate the exact length of time. It depends on the hairstylist and how many individual braids were initially added to the natural hair. But set aside as much time to take out the single strands as putting them in.

There will always be some degree of damage to your own hair using any form of permanent hair extensions. Weaving the hair by adding hair extensions with any of the techniques but putting weaves in and taking them out causes the damage to the hair.
