The Do’s and Don’t of Hair Extensions
The advertisements on television promise that if you use this product, you will have long glowing hair. Then another product comes out that makes more promises. No product can assure a woman that her hair can match the beautiful hair that is seen on TV. Rather than wait for their hair to grow, many women turn to hair extensions to instantly get the beautiful long hair they desire.
It does not matter which hair products women choose to use, or what promises that a beautiful Hollywood starlet makes, nothing compares to the instant gratification f a well-done hair extension. Women love the versatility and the look that hair extensions provide.
After getting the hair extensions, there are some questions that women ask that are vital to maintaining their beautiful new look.
How Long Can I keep My Hair Extensions In For?
The length of time you can keep your extensions in for depends on the type of extensions you have had done.
Can I cut my extension?
Yes hair extension whether they are synthetic or natural can be cut into flattering hairstyles. A good hair stylist can cut the hair to fit your preference. It is always a good idea to take a picture of the hairstyle you want to the stylist. This picture will help the stylist give you the exact look that you want.
Depending on the final look that you are after, the stylist may opt to add the hair extensions in a particular way. If your hair extensions are being added for a particular style, let the stylist know this before she adds the hair extensions.
Can I go swimming with hair extensions?
The chlorine in pools can damage your natural hair. These chemicals can also affect your hair extensions. If your hair extensions are synthetic, the chemicals may break down the synthetic hair bond. Even with human hair chlorine will strip some of the oils and moisture from the natural hair as well as the hair extensions. Wearing a swim cap is always a good idea if you decide to go swimming. These caps are sometimes too small to accommodate large volumes of hair. But as a precaution, a swim cap is a good idea.
After swimming, it is always a good idea to wash the chlorine out of the hair and apply a conditioner. You should ask your hair stylist for specific recommendations for products to use to keep your hair healthy and beautiful
Can I use straightening, curling irons on my hair extensions?
If you have human hair extensions, you can do anything with human hair extensions as you can with natural hair. Synthetic extensions have limited ways for styling. Hot combs and curlers will melt synthetic hair extensions and some chemicals will also break down their properties.
Can Hair Extensions be dyed or colored.
Human hair extensions can be dyed to match the client’s natural hair color. Human hair takes coloring to the same degree that natural human hair will. A hair stylist will try to match your color preference in the human hair extension. There is little damage to human hair extensions because the 100% human hair products are resilient and versatile for use in hair salons that do hair extensions.
Synthetic hair extension products usually come in a variety of colors and textures. Dying synthetic hair products is not recommended.
